The quartet of Oklahomans, based in California, came out of the art-rock faction of early-'80s new wave. The Call allegedly broke up in '91, but Michael Been, the band's primary singer-songwriter, has recruited two of his old bandmates (drummer Scott Musick and guitarist Tom Ferrier) for his debut solo album, On the Verge of a Nervous Breakthrough.
